Palazzo Chigi

Where Piazza Colonna, 370, Roma

Palazzo Chigi is between Colonna Square and Via del Corso. Since 1961, it's the seat of the Italian Government. The history of the Palace began in 1578, when the Aldobrandini family brings together some of the properties in a single building. The building is characterized by a rectangular plan; from the main entrance, on Via del Corso, it can enter the "Court of Honor", which presents the imposing staircase built for the Chigi family, took over the property, by the architect Felice Della Greca. The first floor houses the most important rooms, which date from the original sixteenth century: "Hall of the Galleys", "Hall of Globes", "Hall of the Council of Ministers", "Sitting Yellow", "Antechamber of the Prime Minister", "Study of the Prime Minister", "Deti Gallery", "Room of the Maritime Republics", "Tapestry Salons", "Green Room", "Golden Hall", "Room of the Marine" and "Pompeian Room". In 1922, the Palace was the seat of the Foreign Ministry.
