Palazzo Cavalli-Franchetti

It was built in the second half of the fifteenth century in Gothic style by Marcello family, they lived there later also Gussoni and Horses. In 1878 it was bought by Baron Raimondo Franchetti, Alberto's father, composer. The Franchetti entrusted radical restoration to Camillo Boito, who transformed the building into a neo-Gothic structure, including the front of the XV century, which was opened with pentafore in the two main floors. The first floor is characterized by intersecting arches decorated with quadrilobes and balcony central jutting; the second floor, has instead quadrilobes places the apex of the arc and has no balcony. This composition is flanked by other numerous openings and from the portal of water. The front side, which insists on a large garden, proposes a design characterized by seven mullioned windows for floor. The plant follows the typical pattern of the Venetian palaces: a central portego, flanked by rooms of lesser magnitude. The building has two internal staircases, one of which is the famous staircase designed by Boito, Matscheg and Manetti. The interior is decorated with paintings, carved marbles, cast irons and beaten, worked stones, lamps and furnishings of Eclectic taste.
