Palazzo Ghisilardi Fava

Where Via Manzoni, 2-4, Bologna

Ghisilardi Fava Palace is one of the most famous Renaissance palace of Bologna. In Via Manzoni, now it houses the Medieval Museum of Bologna and the Exhibition Palace, with its Literary Cafe Carracci Fava. Built between 1484 and 1491, it is the architectural model of the Bentivolesco period. It was commissioned by Bartolomeo Ghisilardi and created by Zilio Montanari. In the courtyard of the Palace rises the Tower of Acquaintances, dating from much earlier, with the typical characteristics of a tower-house (that has a function of both residential and defensive). During the Fascist period, the building housed the House of Fascio of Bologna, one of the first in Italy. After the restoration, in 2011, the Palace takes to host a series of exhibitions in its various plans, with works from the collection of Modern and Contemporary Art Carisbo Foundation.
