Chiesa di Santa Maria Egiziaca a Pizzofalcone

Where Via Egiziaca a Pizzofalcone, Napoli

Itis  located in the street on the Pizzofalcone Hill. The original structure consisted of a small church founded in 1616. In 1648, the sisters promoted a rehash of the entire complex, entrusting the project to Cosimo Fanzago, although its current appearance is the result of several successive interventions: in 1665 the direction of the work was taken over by Francesco Antonio Picchiatti, who conceived the outside, while from 1691 to 1716, by Archangel Guglielmelli. The entrance is preceded by an imposing staircase, with the dome designed by Guglielmelli. Interesting is the convex facade. The plant of the Church, the result of the combination of two Greek crosses rotated among them, is one of the first applications of the Baroque architecture. The interior is decorated with a simple stucco decoration and valuable majolica floor of 1717. Of note, the marble altar, balustrade on which are the six coats of arms of noble families that financed the accommodation of the Church, to inside which are housed various works of art.
